A Government School Teacher under the Karnataka Department of School Education and Literacy is responsible for delivering foundational and advanced school education, maintaining academic standards, and fostering overall student development in government schools across the state.

Key Responsibilities

• Teaching & Curriculum Execution:Deliver lessons based on the state (KSEEB) curriculum in subjects like Kannada, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
• Student Assessment: Evaluate academic performance through continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE), conduct periodic exams, and track learning progress.
• School & Co-Curricular Activities: Manage classroom discipline, conduct morning assemblies, organize sports/cultural programs, and oversee government schemes (e.g., PM POSHAN / Mid-Day Meal scheme).
• Community Outreach: Conduct parent-teacher meetings (PTMs) and engage with School Monitoring and Development Committees (SDMCs) to improve student enrollment and retainment.

Teaching Levels & Cadres

1. Primary / Lower Primary Teachers (LPS): Classes 1 to 5.
2. Graduate Primary School Teachers (GPSTR):Classes 6 to 8.
3. High School Teachers (RMSA / Secondary): Classes 9 and 10.

Recruitment Overview

• Educational Qualification:
  • Classes 1–5: PUC (10+2) / Graduation with D.El.Ed / D.Ed and KARTET / CTET Paper 1 qualification.
  • Classes 6–8 (GPSTR): Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject combinations + B.Ed / D.El.Ed and KARTET / CTET Paper 2 qualification.
  • High School (Classes 9–10): Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in the core subject along with a B.Ed degree.
• Age Limit:Generally 21 to 40 years (with standard relaxations up to 43–45 years for OBC/SC/ST categories).
• Selection Process:
  • Common Entrance Test (CET):A competitive written examination.
  • Merit Formula:Selection is heavily weighted towards CET performance (~70%), along with TET scores (~20%), academic marks, and document verification.
• Pay Scale: Starts in the range of ₹25,800 – ₹51,400 for Primary Teachers, and goes up to ₹33,450 – ₹62,600 (Level 6/7 Pay Matrix) for Graduate & High School Teachers, plus standard HRA, DA, and state government benefits.
