Automobile Spare Parts Technician

An Automobile Spare Parts Technician (also referred to as a Parts Advisor, Parts Executive, or Auto Parts Specialist) is an operational and technical professional responsible for managing, sourcing, identifying, and issuing correct spare parts, components, and accessories in vehicle dealerships, service workshops, or retail auto stores.

Key Responsibilities

• Parts Identification & Cataloging: Interpret technical parts manuals, electronic parts catalogs (EPC), and exploded view diagrams to correctly match OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part numbers with vehicle specifications.
• Workshop Coordination:Issue requested replacement parts to service mechanics, floor technicians, and body shop workers to ensure smooth job-card completions.
• Inventory Control & Reordering: Track fast-moving, slow-moving, and obsolete inventory; conduct stock audits; and raise procurement requisitions to prevent stock-outs.
• Counter Sales & Billing:Assist walk-in customers and external buyers, process bills/invoices, check warranty eligibility, and handle component returns or exchanges.
• Vendor & OEM Liaison: Coordinate with automobile manufacturers, authorized distributors, and third-party logistics providers to place bulk orders and handle shipping claims.

Eligibility & Entry Pathways

• Educational Qualification:Class 10th or 12th Pass, Diploma, or Graduation in any stream.
• Technical Training Paths:
  • ITI Certification: 1 to 2-year ITI trade in Motor Vehicle Mechanic (MMV) or Automobile Technology.
  • Polytechnic Diploma: 3-year Diploma in Automobile, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Vocational / On-the-Job Training: Apprenticeship or store-keeper experience in retail auto spare shops or multi-brand service centers.
• Key Skills Required:Familiarity with vehicle component functions, computer literacy (DMS/ERP systems like SAP, MS Excel), basic inventory math, and attention to detail.

• Authorized OEM Dealerships:Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Honda, BMW, etc.
• Multi-Brand Workshop Networks: GoMechanic, Mahindra First Choice, Bosch Car Service, TVS Auto.
• Commercial Vehicle & Fleet Outlets: Ashok Leyland, Tata Commercial, Volvo Eicher dealerships.
• Spare Parts Retail & E-Commerce: Local automotive distributors, wholesale part dealers, or digital auto platforms (e.g., Boodmo).

Pay Scale (India)

• Trainee / Helper: ₹12,000 – ₹16,000 per month.
• Junior Parts Executive (1–3 years): ₹18,000 – ₹28,000 per month.
• Senior Parts Specialist / Spare Parts Manager: ₹32,000 – ₹55,000+ per month (higher packages for luxury brand dealerships and large inventory hubs).
